Happy International Women’s Day 2020!Sovithiea
IWD is about reflecting on the state of women’s rights today – celebrating how far we’ve come, but also recognising the continuing barriers to equality.
Across the world, one key barrier is gender-based violence. Today, we are shining a light on the work of Mrs. Chap Chanthida, Deputy Director of the Kampong Cham Referral Hospital, who provides health services to women affected by gender-based violence through the Australia-Cambodia Cooperation for Equitable Sustainable Services (ACCESS) program.
“Being a service provider, I am very happy to save people’s lives, particularly underprivileged women and girls affected by gender-based violence” Ms Chanthida said.
“I am passionate about providing the support women who need it the most and to encourage them to be brave to speak out in cases of violence and to report to the nearest local authorities. Women should be aware that their rights are protected” Ms Chanthida added.
We are proud to support the work of inspirational Cambodians like Chanthida through ACCESS, reflecting Australia’s strong commitment to supporting human rights, gender equality and disability-inclusive development in our region.
