International Women’s Day 2021 – Meet Samon Soy

Today we would like to introduce you to another inspiring changemaker, Samon Soy. Samon is leading the promotion of women and children’s rights, and contributing to accessible support services for all survivors of gender-based violence in Cambodia.

As a commune council member of Chamkar Andoung Commune in Kampong Cham Province, Samon leads the Commune Committee for Women and Children. Samon has a clear message for every woman in Cambodia: “Please be strong and stand-up for yourself. Do not dwell on past experiences. Think about your future, as many good things are waiting for you”.

Through her leadership role and achievements across the community, Samon inspires other women and girls to stand up and build a better future for themselves and their families. With support from the Australian Government’s Australia-Cambodia Cooperation for Equitable Sustainable Services (ACCESS) program, Samon has participated in several capacity building activities that have helped build her skills in critical areas, including basic counselling of gender-based violence survivors.
