Meeting on Gender Responsive Budgeting

Meeting on Gender Responsive Budgeting

On 9 April 2021, the Government of Australia-funded, Australia-Cambodia Cooperation for Equitable Sustainable Services (ACCESS) Program organized a meeting on Gender Responsive Budgeting with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MoWA).

The main objective of this meeting was to present recommendations for measures to strengthen the integration of gender in the budget processes and documentation and seek feedback from and discuss the next steps with MoWA.

MoWA was represented by His Excellency The Chhun Hak, Director General of the General Directorate for Gender Equality and Economic Development of MoWA, along with his advisor and various other members of the team. The meeting was also honored by the attendance of Ms. Elizabeth Adler, Second Secretary of the Australian Embassy to Cambodia.

On behalf of ACCESS, the Program’s Public Financial Management Advisor presented the key findings on integrating gender equity into budget processes, including policy rationales, lessons learned from international practices, the current context of integration of gender equity in Cambodia, and recommendations for short- and medium-term measures in order to strengthen such an integration.

H.E The Chhun Hak appreciated the support from the Australian Government through the Program, and as a result of the meeting, MoWA agreed to further examine the recommendations and explore ways forward. A technical workshop is expected to be organised in late April to continue the discussion.

The ACCESS Program is working with the Royal Government of Cambodia and Implementing Partners to improve the sustainability, quality, and inclusive services for persons with disabilities and women affected by gender-based violence.
