Ms Sin Sochea : A Dressmaker Building her Confidence to Expand her Business

Ms Sin Sochea lives in the Siem Reap province and runs a tailor shop in her commune. Born and raised in a culturally conservative family, Sochea is a naturally shy and reserved woman, a trait that has had an impact on her business connections and network. Sochea uses a wheelchair and has a mild visual  impairment.  As a result, it is quite challenging for her to use a traditional sewing machine, and she has had to make some accessibility adjustments. With support from rehabilitation service providers and non-government organizations, Sochea can use her adapted sewing machine independently, that has improved her business.

She has also gained more confidence in communicating and with an improved understanding of business management, has trained women with disabilities to become tailors. “Understanding business management and building networks are important skills for me “she says. She also encourages other persons with disabilities:

“Do not give up and be strong. Stay focus and consistent toward your goal.”
